Chapter 12

“I love you, Gia,” Jaiden kept repeating after our lovemaking session. We were both spent and laid side by side, gazing at each other. I nodded my head and gave him a smile.

“Did he believe you?” I went back to my previous question.

“He didn’t at first, but I told him of my plans to find the potion,” he said, stroking the red section of my hair. He gave me a sad smile.

“And?” I prodded. I didn’t want him to believe anything was his fault.

“He asked me to leave tomorrow morning,” he chuckled. “He said he’s only leaving me for now because of you, and if I don’t come back with the potion, he’ll haunt me down and kill me on the spot,” he said the last part with horror in his eyes. I sprang into laughter.

“Sounds…like father,” I managed in-between laughs, and he smiled at me.

“How was your day?” he asked.

I narrated everything that transpired, especially what Mandu said. He nodded in understanding.

“I’ll be back soon, okay?” he assured me and pulled me closer to give me a hug. He kissed my hair, forehead, and every inch of my face. “Take care of yourself and the baby,” he uttered, tears evident in his eyes.

“I won’t die, don’t worry,” I said smiling.

I was reading a book the next day, when I heard a knock on the door, before I could confirm who the person was, Fayar was already walking in.

“Hey, Gia, how are you this morning?” he asked, taking a seat on the sofa.

“Horrible, you?” I asked.

“Why horrible?” he questioned. I gave him a sad smile and heaved a sigh. He must have seen the tears in my eyes because next thing I knew he was standing up and coming over to me with open arms, pulling me into a hug.

“He’s gone, Fayar. He’s gone.” I sniffed, holding his shirt with one of my hands. He stroked my back to calm me down.

“Did you get to say goodbye?” he asked, and I nodded my head.

“It’s okay, Gia, he’ll be back soon,” he released me from the hug, holding me by the shoulder. “I made sure a few of my men went with him like I said before,” he assured me, and he sat me down on the side of the bed, sitting beside me as well.

“I also asked some of my trusted men residing within the kingdom to find out everything they know about the potion. If any of them even have a clue as to where it is, I’ll send a message across to Jaiden immediately,” he explained. “So, you don’t have to worry, okay?” he said, and I nodded.

“I’ll try, but how do I cope here?” I asked.

“I don’t understand,” Jaiden said.

“If I use my powers, I get drained. If I don’t gain control of it, my baby will apparently be in control of my body. I’m also worried about some changes I’ve been observing on my end,” I relayed.

“What changes?” he asked with furrowed brows.

“My eye. My hair.
